Blue 2 is a new line of denim that offers affordable price points without sacrificing style. As President, Scott Drake, is focused on building the premium basic business. "I wanted to make a high quality jean without the bells and whistles," says Drake. "I remember what a jean used to be -- a great friend. When you put it on you felt better."
Drake's knowledge and expertise comes from over 20 years in the denim industry. Drake began at Hillbilly Jeans, a 50 million dollar jean company that was a major force in the junior jean sector throughout the eighties.
In 1982, Drake and his business partner started New York Jean Company, where Drake was responsible for the merchandising and sales. Ten years later, the two sold their business and Drake went on to do private label work for BeBe, Arden B., Kenneth Cole and Federated Stores.
Seeing a void in the marketplace for quality denim basics, Drake presented his concept for Blue 2 to Blue Cult owners David Mechaly and Caroline Athias. Blue Cult believed in Drake's vision and has financially backed the business with one goal in mind: to provide premium denim at an affordable price point.
The Blue 2 collection consists of "tight and core" pieces, according to Drake, that stores and consumers can count on day in and day out. "Instead of chasing the 'new fashion' that comes and goes, I want my customers to come to depend on Blue 2 as a brand that won't expire, regardless of what is happening with trends," said Drake.
Although, Drake does make exceptions with a few fashion pieces. "We don't take our eye off the trends - instead we choose a few key items and add them to the basic collection each season," says Drake. Blue 2 fashion pieces include minis, military inspired jackets, capris and trouser styles.
Blue 2 as an assortment of 12 washes that run from light to dark, depending on the fabric, but Drake believes the most important factor for any jean is fit. "Blue 2 is cut to flatter any shape and is appropriate for day or night. There is definitely something for everyone. My mantra is 'Everyone, Everyday, Everywhere'."
The line is available in Nordstrom, Macy's, E-Street Denim, Fred Segal Santa Monica, National Jeans, Havana Jeans, and Tracy Ross, and has expanded to international distribution.
